1. Justice is better served

2. It creates another form of crime deterrent

3. People fear death and will not kill others to avoid punishment

4. Prisoner parole or escapes can give criminals another chance to kill


1.The innocent may be wrongly executed

2. Life in prison also guarantees no future crimes

3. The death penalty prevents future murders

4. The death penalty is applied unfairly and should not be used

5. The punishment doesn’t always fit the crime

6. Executions cost more than life in prison

7. The risk of executing the innocent precludes the use of the death penalty

    You have many more arguments against the death penalty than for it. Are these the arguments you are going to discuss in your essay? All of them? Some of them? Which?
